Miranda Kerr Supports Youth Suicide Helpline In Australia

Miranda Kerr has thrown her weight behind a helpline aimed at fighting youth suicide in her native Australia.
“The sadness of losing someone, especially in these circumstances, is something we live with and we continually question how it could be prevented,” said the supermodel, who lost a cousin to suicide. “There’s not really a great awareness about the services available to kids and that’s why I’m behind this great cause.”
According to the organization behind the helpline, “Kids Helpline is a free, 24 hour counseling service for young people aged 5-25 years in Australia. Counseling is offered by phone, email and over the web. Counselors respond to more than 6,000 calls each week about issues ranging from relationship breakdowns and bullying, to sexual abuse, homelessness, suicidal thoughts, and drug and alcohol use.”
“If we can reach just one child and let them know there is someone out there who wants to listen, that could help to save their life,” adds Kerr. “I believe if my cousin had known of Kids Helpline it may have saved his life.”

Justin Bieber Apologises For Not Thanking Fans
In his acceptance speech for Best Male Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, Justin Bieber took to the stage and thanked God, Jesus and �all of them.� He didn�t mention Selena Gomez who was on her feet in the audience applauding him or, worst still, his Beliebers!
After being called to task for his erroneous failure to acknowledge his loyal fans, Justin promptly hit his keypad and tweeted an apology. He wrote that he had �blanked out up there,� and that he �forgot a lot of things in the moment.� His fans have most likely forgiven him.
However Justin hadn�t made any mention of girlfriend Selena in his apology which, of course, has given celeb watchers cause to speculate that maybe the couple are heading for a split. Well looks like all eyes will be on Justin and Selena to see if she gets him back for this apparent snub.

When I came upon the above real estate listing, I kept trying to guess who the designer of the above space was. In the end I didn't get it right but when I found out who designed the space it all made sense. To think that the above space is only cleaned up for real estate pictures. I can only imagine how the above space would look all styled up ready for a talented photographer to come in and take pictures for editorial purposes. If you are curious about the designer or to learn more about the above space then go here.
Also there is a good chance of finding some more beautiful interiors while real estate stalking over on the Elliman site if you want to check out more spaces. I also really enjoyed this space as well as this space. May help that many of the listings are high end spaces in New York City.

Dorm decor 1950s style
? Day 242 of Vintage 365 ?
Having never lived on campus in a dorm, I can't say as though I have any personal experience when it comes to decorating one, but I've certainly visited other peoples' and seen my fair share of these (usually) pocket-sized colligate dwellings before.
As with nearly all abodes, the decor in dorm rooms can run the gamut from painfully Spartan to glamorously gorgeous. Most fall squarely in between, veering towards the practical side of life - chocked full of items like a desk, comfy chair, bed (usually twin size), computer and printer, dresser, and bookcase.
Tiny spaces intended to hold the most basic creature comforts of life, while allowing students to productively plug away at their studies, dorms have been a way of collage life for millions of students over the years.
As the the new school year kicking off right about now, I thought it would be fun to share a cute I image I found recently of a 1950s dorm room with you.

In this shot of two 1950s Vassar College students pouring over their books we see a room that is both similar and different from many dorms today. It strikes me as being more reserved and homelike, with it's spindle back chairs, double curtain windows, and pair of rugs. It's not luxurious in the slightest, yet it seems inviting and comfortable.
The walls are free of posters, photos, bulletin boards, and mirrors, a small lone piece of artwork the only thing adoring their pale hued paint. I like that girls have added a few feminine touches in the form of things like the floral print bedspreads and cute plush dogs.
Three lamps ensure they needn't strain their eyes as they read chapter after chapter; what looks like folding chairs propped against the right wall are likely for when company stops by, and (slightly beat-up) shelving near the door gives the ladies a place to house their shoes and handbags.
Like so many rooms of the decade, this college dorm is both sweet and utilitarian. It speaks to the necessary frugality most students face, yet really looks like the kind of spot you could feel instantly at home in.
Were I headed off to a dorm of my own this fall, I'd definitely be looking at vintage photographs like this for inspiration on how to dress up my college digs!

From famed British poet Tennyson (b. 1809) to pop culture artist Andy Warhol (b. 1928), Noble laureate Sir Alexander Fleming (b. 1881) to beloved actress Lucile Ball (b. 1911), quite a few well-known folks have made their debut into life on August 6th.
While I certainly love Lucy, enjoy Andy's vibrant art, lap up Tennyson's words, and am very thankful for the work Fleming contributed to the world of science and medicine, the person whose birthday falls today that matters most to me is that of my beloved husband, Tony.
As he turns a spritely 31 this sizzling hot August morn, today will be the seventh of his birthday I've gotten to celebrate with him, and I could not be more elated about that fact.
Tony and I are both "summer babies" (with my birthday falling in July), and we love the fact that there's less than a month separating our special days. The time between the two seems to hold a special sort of excitement and anticipation, fuelled on my birthday first and the lead up to his today.
There's a cake to be baked, meals to prep, gifts lay out, and myriad other birthday details to tend to, so today's post won't be a giant one.
Instead, as the searing golden sun cuts a path across the sleepy horizon, I'll cheerfully send all those - who like me - are fans not only of your loved ones' birthdays, but b-days in general, to cheek out not one, not two, but three different delightful Flickr groups devoted solely to vintage birthdays!

Leopard Wedges....
I recently received these adorable Leopard wedges from Me Too shoes and they've immediately become one of my go to shoes this summer. Well for starters, I like anything that's a wedge or espadrille and these are equally comfortable as they are stylish. They're also leopard print, so hopefully I can wear them a little over extending into the fall. They're currently on sale on Zappos for $62. More pics to come on how I styled them, but in the meantime thought you'd enjoy a sneak peak.

Kak� Heading To London?
Class act
The Daily Star is reporting that North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are in a race to secure Brazilian ace Kak� on a year-long loan deal.
Arsenal have already had an initial bid turned down by Kak�s club Real Madrid -- who are reluctant to loan the player to a side also competing in the UEFA Champions League -- but are eager to try one more time.
The tabloid, however, reports that Spurs are in the best position to land the player as their chairman, Daniel Levy, has a good relationship with Madrid�s board and is already in the midst of bringing Kak�s Madrid teammate Lassana Diarra to White Hart Lane.
Bidding to be No. 1 again
Both Arsenal and Spurs have till midnight on Wednesday 31 August (when the transfer window closes) to finalise purchase and/or loan deals.
Kak�, 29, won the FIFA World Player of the Year accolade in 2007 but has, since his move to Real Madrid in 2009, suffered a general loss of form and a slew of career-threatening injuries. There�s no doubt, however, about the player�s class. In fact, a move to London could be just what the man needs.

Quite possibly the cutest miniature dressmakers form ever!

There's an unspoken rule that if something is cute in its regular size, it stands to be utterly adorable if you shrink it down. From teacup pigs to miniature ponies, the animal kingdom is teaming with examples of this rule, but everyday life has plenty of cases, too - just think of doll houses, bite sized cupcakes, and baby clothes to name but three.
I think that dressmakers forms (aka busts or dummies) are amongst the most beautiful items one can have in their home. Whether used for their original purpose as a tailoring aid, put to use for storing and displaying items, or merely as a decorative element, there's something about there endearing blend of functionality and feminine beauty housed in dress forms that makes me swoon right, left and centre over them.
Usually, however, while strikingly attractive, "cute" isn't the first adjective that comes to mind when describing these classic sewing room inhabitants. Not at least, that it is, until some clever soul started making miniature forms of them. These pint sized version are nearly always just for organizational or decorative purposes, being to small to aid in the tailoring of just about anything but doll clothes.
I've seen numerous examples of miniature dressmaker's busts over the years, in all manner of materials (from metal to plastic), yet few have come close to being as wonderfully cute as the very, very lifelike version I spied this week on Pottery Barn's website.
There is such a marvelous authenticity to this smaller sized, vintage inspired sewing bust. From the wooden spindle leg to the cotton canvas body, I'm flat-out smitten with it. I could see this in so many spots around the house, from a dresser to a vanity, home office desk to a bookshelf. Really, for something this deeply sweet, there's scarcely a spot that wouldn't help its adorableness shine.
If, like me, you've fallen head-over-heels for this 26.5 inch tall miniature dress form, you can pick up one (or ten, you know, whatever works 
) online from Pottery Barn, where they're available for $63.63 Cnd (apologizes to my US readers, the website is automatically showing me the price in Canadian dollars).
Then prepare to sit back and watch with a smile (and keen sense of what's coming) as everyone who walks into you house and sees this incredibly darling vintage style mini dressmaker's dummy squeals with delight and implores you to know where you got it from.

Brooke Shields And Celebrity Friends To Read Children's Stories At Charity Event
Julianne Moore, Brooke Shields, John C. Reilly and Billy Crudup are just some of the big names lending their voices to a special charity event in October.
The stars will read specially selected children’s books to an adult audience, simulating what volunteers in Bellevue Hospital’s Pediatric Clinic do every day as part of the Reach Out and Read program. The Starry Night Stories event will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the program.
Children of Bellevue’s Reach Out and Read encourages reading aloud as a regular, joyful home activity that can improve language development, parent child interactions and school success.
For the past 15 years, pediatricians, parent educators, and volunteer readers have worked together to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at pediatric checkups from 6 months through 5 years of age, with a special focus on children growing up in poverty.
Children of Bellevue’s Reach Out and Read is part of National Reach Out and Read (ROR), an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. ROR is offered in all 50 states, Washington DC, and on U.S. Military bases overseas.
The event – which takes place on October 3 at Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59th Street, New York City – will also include hors d’oeuvres and wine reception.
