The first piece of my little news is that I am leaving my job. It was such a strange feeling to "put my two weeks in" and as much as I loved the company, I was ready for, you guessed it... change!
If you follow me on twitter (@megan_biram) you may have picked up on the second half of the news. But I thought I'd do an "official" announcement. So here goes... as much as I adore my family, cherish my friends, respect my colleagues, and love the cost of living, at the end of this month my husband and I are moving from Kansas City to the DC area! I am so excited!!! I've wanted to move to a larger urban city ever since I can remember.
Do we have a place? Yes. An awesome condo that is literally next to a Whole Foods (my excitement about the proximity to a Whole Foods is a little scary). Will my furniture fit in the condo? No, and I've recently mentioned that I'm wanting to do a clean sweep of my belongings. Partly because I just want less stuff and there is no way our furniture will fit in our little condo, but also because it's just time for new furniture! Do I know anyone in DC? Oh, about five people. All of whom have been so helpful already! Thank you! But I love meeting new people! Have I ever been to DC? Nope, not once. I'm a DC virgin. Wait, does the airport count? What am I going to do? A lot of things. Do I have a job? No official job yet, but I am looking for jobs or contract work in the social media consulting, new media marketing, brand strategy, blogging, design, or events/fashion/interior styling fields, but honestly, I'm open to many different things. And I'll be amping up freelance, contract work, and other creative projects in the meantime. So e-mail me if you have any ideas!
I'm so happy and excited to take on this east coast adventure! New cities give me a crazy adrenaline. I want to dissect them, search every corner for cafs, shops, wine bars, parks, restaurants, yoga studios, historical buildings and interesting architecture, museums, and in DC there is so much to see! Not to mention the proximity to so many other east coast cities anywhere from an hour to a day's drive that will need exploring and frequent visits: Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Virginia Beach, Boston. I hear the Adirondacks are beautiful, and I'm pretty sure I need to drive through New England while the leaves are changing in the fall. I can't sleep because I can't stop thinking about all of the opportunity that awaits, the culture I'll experience, the people I'll meet and the good times I'll be having.
From the quote above, Mark Twain goes on to say, "So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
Thanks Mark, I'll do just that.
All DC-area advice, recommendations, and connections welcomed.
